Tony Mowbray watched the likes of Shrewsbury Town and Wigan Athletic open up an advantage over Blackburn Rovers in the League One table as a result of playing in the last few weeks. Blackburn, however, had not been in action for the last 19 days. This is not to a combination of matches being called off and the international break.

The last game for Blackburn was the second week of March. Now, the club is preparing for a return to league action with the team set to host Bradford City at home on Thursday. Blackburn may have played a game more than Wigan, but they have played one fewer than Shrewsbury Town, who have a two-point advantage in the table. As a result, Blackburn could potentially go top of the table with a victory in the game against Bradford.

Mowbray says that it is time for Blackburn to put together a string of wins. The club are unbeaten in the last seven games, and they have dropped points only once in the last six league matches. These dropped points came in the top of the table clash against Wigan, who managed to come back from a 2-0 position to draw the match.

Tony Mowbray has set the target of promotion and it will be extremely good for Blackburn to make a return to the Championship. “Our direct competitors have both played three games since then and are winning football matches. It’s our turn Thursday, so we have to be really positive and try and win the game and keep everything ticking along. We can’t affect anything Shrewsbury Town or Wigan Athletic does any more, we have to do it ourselves and win games. If we can win all of our games then we’ll have enough points to get out of this league,” said the former West Brom manager.
