Blackburn manager Tony Mowbray says that it is extremely important that the club keep up the momentum between now and the end of the season. Blackburn are looking to get promoted back into the Championship, and they have been involved in a promotion battle so far this season. After the end of the New Year fixtures, Blackburn find themselves just outside the top two places. Tony Mowbray will like his team to get into the top two since it would get automatic promotion to the Championship, but there is not a significant gap between the likes of Shrewsbury Town. Hence, Mowbray says that it is vital for Blackburn to stay in this position so as to get back into the second division.

However, Blackburn are facing competition from the likes of Scunthorpe United and Bradford City. Both clubs are rather close to Blackburn, who have managed only one win in the last five games across all competitions. The club may have received a blessing in disguise in the form of a FA Cup exit at the hands of Hull City. This third-round exit means that Blackburn need not have focus on the cup competitions. The last defeat suffered by Blackburn was in October against Oldham. Such has been their form in the last two months that the club are now on the brink of getting their first promotion in a long time.

“The preparation will be key. We know what we have left this season and every game is a massive event for us and no bigger than the team directly above us in the league. We have to try and pick the right team and get results. We came through unbeaten, so a fantastic effort from the team, everyone that has been involved. We’ve come through, we’ve remained unbeaten and I think it’s a fantastic effort from the team to come through this period of games,” said Mowbray after the FA Cup loss.
