KEAN NEEDS TO GET DEFENSIVE

Blackburn Rovers were disappointing in their latest match, which they lost 2-1 to Stoke City.

There had been high expectations from the Rovers fans, who had hoped to see the club build on the success of their previous two matches – when they managed a draw at Anfield and managed a stunning 3-2 victory against Manchester United.

However, their performance against Stoke was not quite as impressive, and left the manager Steve Kean disappointed, and on the edge.

Kean readily admits to the fact that Blackburn’s defensive record is costing them a lot on the Premier league table. The team don’t seem to have too many problems going forward, especially with Yakubu in such fine form – they are actually in the top half of the table when it comes to creating chances and making the best use of opportunities to score goals. Unfortunately this isn’t matched by their ability to keep a clean sheet, which is something that the manager is going to have to focus his attention on.

Kean is widely expected to add a few new faces to the backline in the January transfer window, with the theory being that if they can strengthen the defence they will actually be one of the best Premier League bets to stay up.

At the same time it looks as though Christopher Samba, their most consistent performer and fearless centre-back, may be on his way before the transfer window slams shut – QPR reportedly lodged an early £5m bid which was roundly rejected, but they are expected to come back to Blackburn with an improved offer.
